Marcos Hi-way PUJs rerouted due to LRT-2 works

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) implemented starting October 18 a traffic rerouting scheme for public utility jeepneys (PUJs) plying Marcos Highway to help ease congestion in the area where two malls are located and construction of a rail extension project is in progress.

Jeepneys going to Antipolo City and Cainta in Rizal province will no longer be allowed to pass through the portion of Marcos Highway where the Emerald station of the Light Rail Transit (LRT) 2 is being constructed.

They would have to turn right to an access road leading to a parking lot owned by Robinsons Metro East. Those going to Antipolo can then turn left to the Marcos Highway exit, just after the LRT construction area. The same exit is also the designated loading and unloading area for jeepneys.

For jeepneys headed to Cainta, they can bypass Marcos Highway by driving straight to Felix Avenue.

The scheme will be implemented from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., according to Jojo Garcia, the MMDA assistant general manager for planning. Additional traffic enforcers will be deployed.

This particular section of Marcos Highway has become a choke point, with the queue usually extending all the way to Marikina. —JOVIC YEE
