ADB summit expected to cause heavy traffic on Edsa, Ortigas

Motorists should avoid passing through the stretch of Edsa between Makati City and Mandaluyong as well as several areas in Pasig City from May 3 to 6 to avoid being inconvenienced.

Traffic on parts of the busy thoroughfare will be affected as the country will be hosting the four-day 51st annual meeting of governors of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in Mandaluyong City.

While no roads will be closed for the summit, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will implement a stop-and-go scheme in some areas to give way to delegates’ convoys.

“The concentration areas will be the Ortigas Business District, Shangri-La and ADB,” said MMDA Deputy Chair Frisco San Juan.

In the Ortigas Business District, traffic flow will be affected on Doña Julia Vargas Avenue, ADB Avenue, San Miguel Avenue, Guadix, Bank Drive and Saint Francis Street.

On Edsa, delegates’ convoys will use the yellow lanes when passing through the Ayala and Shaw Boulevard underpasses.

Around 3,000 delegates, composed of finance and development ministers and central bank governors of the ADB’s 67 member-economies, are expected to arrive in the country as early as May 2. —Jovic Yee
