Your politician’s next car: Ferrari unveils 1035-hp FXX-K prototype
The Ferrari XX program is a product that perhaps only Ferrari can pull off. The program asks customers to pay up a reported $2 million to essentially rent a prototype car based on the Ferrari Enzo, driving the car only on track days specified by Ferrari. Ferrari keeps the car and handles all maintenance and transportation. In return, the customers, who essentially pay to be development drivers, get to sample Maranello’s latest technology. Ferrari also had a similar program for the 599XX.
Now comes the FXX-K, based on the $1.69 million LaFerrari hybrid sports car, one of which has been snapped up by a Philippine politician. The K refers to the KERS kinetic energy recovery system. The gasoline and electric systems can deliver 1035hp, with 848 hp from the 6.3-liter V12 and 187 hp from the electric motor. Torque will be more than 900Nm. Rather than the usual Road, Sport and Race settings, the steering wheel Manettino knob will have settings for Qualify (maximum performance for limited number of laps), Long Run (consistent performance), Manual Boost (instant maximum torque), and Fast Charge (rapid recharge of batteries).
The Ferrari FXX-K will feature active aerodynamics, with downforce of 540kg at 200 kph. It will ride on Pirelli slick tires embedded with sensors to detect acceleration, temperature and pressure.
The first group of clients will test the car at the Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi.
We need not be concerned that one of these will land in the Philippines, as the cars will likely be run only on European circuits. Your favorite politician will just have to fly out to drive this, then.
