GM to stop ASEAN production of Chevy Spin, Sonic

March 10,2015

spinGeneral Motors Southeast Asia announced  that it will stop production of the Chevrolet Spin and Sonic at its Indonesian and Thailand factories. Following that, GM through its Philippine distributor, The Covenant Car Company Inc, said that the company will continue to support Spin and Sonic in terms of spare parts and warranty coverage. The announcement also said that the two models will be available “for the coming months.” The Sonic is a global model, so it should continue to be available, even if sourced from other factories. The Spin’s future within Chevrolet’s portfolio is less clear.

Here’s the full announcement from GM: General Motors announced last week that it will cease production of the Chevrolet Spin at its Bekasi plant in Indonesia and Chevrolet Sonic at its Rayong plant in Thailand by the end of June 2015. These announcements will not impact our Spin or Sonic customers in the Philippines, who will continue to receive the support they expect from Chevrolet. Warranty terms and spare parts availability will remain unchanged. In addition, Chevrolet dealers in the Philippines will continue selling the Spin and the Sonic for the coming months. Chevrolet and TCCCI (The Covenant Car Company, Incorporated – the exclusive  distributor of Chevrolet cars )  remain committed to expanding our lineup of Chevrolet products for our customers across the Philippines by leveraging Chevrolet’s extensive global portfolio.
