With more and more companies getting into electric vehicles, the Electric Vehicle Association of the Philippines (EVAP) has stepped up its project with Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) to develop an Electric Vehicle Servicing Training curriculum for the industry. Here’s the news from EVAP:
“With more and more players coming in, both local and foreign, more and more electric vehicles and products are now entering the market. The industry now needs more technical people to support the growing EV industry in terms of proper maintenance, servicing and repairs”, says EVAP President Rommel Juan. “We need this curriculum as a basis for a Training Regulation so that TESDA centers throughout the country can then run their own free EV training seminars”.
He stresses that this in effect will mean substantial savings for EV assemblers and distributors in terms of after-sales service as they will no longer have to send Manila-based engineers and technicians to maintain or repair an EV in the province. “This will also assure EV buyers that there will be after-sales service available anywhere in the country. We all know that in order to fully develop the EV Industry, we cannot stop at just producing and selling vehicles. We must look at after-sales service as well”.
EVAP and TESDA through its Green Technology Center (GTC) have already met to develop the curriculum to do trainings for the technical servicing, maintenance and repairs of electric vehicles. TESDA GTC Administrator Reynaldo Dantes said that the training seminars will initially be made available for TESDA instructors and the technical staff of EVAP member companies and their major clients. “And we are happy to have EVAP as our first partner in this EV training program. Being the major players in the domestic EV industry, they have the resources, skills and knowledge that we need to cover all the important aspects of the EV training program”.
Under the agreement, EVAP will also donate an electric tricycle, EV parts and components, tools and some testing facilities to the TESDA GTC laboratory. They will also initially provide the resource persons for the hands-on training seminars. On the other hand, TESDA will provide the training venue, laboratory, food and even accommodation for trainees from outside of Metro Manila.
Juan explains that there is a growing deployment of EVs nationwide such as ETrikes in Boracay, Mandaluyong, Naga, Manila and Antipolo. “EJeepneys are also now in Makati, Muntinlupa, Las Pinas, Iloilo and Bacolod. With this growing number of EVs, we need more technical people who are knowledgeable in electric vehicles and this TESDA-EVAP partnership is just what the doctor ordered!”
