60,000 road accidents in first seven months of 2016

According to the latest Road Crash Statistics Report of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority’s Metro Manila Accident Recording and Analysis System, there were 60,583 road accidents in the National Capital Region from January to July. Of this figure, 258 were fatal; 9,661 resulted in nonfatal injuries while 50,664 resulted in damage to property. In 2015, the MMDA said it recorded 95,615 traffic accidents in the metropolis which killed 519 persons, injured 17,103 others and caused 77,993 cases of property damage. —MARIELLE MEDINA, INQUIRER RESEARCH
