Westbound lanes of Marcos Bridge close at noon today

AT noon today, August 26, the westbound lanes of the Marcos Bridge in Marikina City will be closed off to traffic as these undergo rehabilitation work, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) announced.

The agency said the eastbound lanes of the bridge, which were closed off in May, have been opened for traffic.

“After less than three months of repair, motorists going to Antipolo can now utilize the eastbound portion of the bridge,” MMDA general manager Jose Arturo “Jojo” Garcia said.

He added the zipper lane system will be implemented on the eastbound lanes for vehicles exiting Marikina to address the expected heavy traffic, especially during rush hours.

The closure of Marcos Bridge’s westbound lanes is expected to last for four months. In the meantime, MMDA advises motorists to take these alternate routes:

Cubao-to-Antipolo routes

• From Cubao, take Aurora Boulevard, turn right to Katipunan Avenue, take the service road of the Libis underpass, turn left to Boni Serrano Avenue, take FVR Road straight to Macapagal Bridge, then take Marcos Highway to Antipolo;
• From Cubao, turn right to 15th Avenue, turn left to Boni Serrano Avenue, take FVR Road straight to Macapagal Bridge, then take Marcos Highway to Antipolo.

Cubao-to-Antipolo route for trucks

• From Cubao, take Aurora Boulevard, turn right to Katipunan Avenue, take service road of the Libis underpass, turn left to Boni Serrano, go straight toward FVR Road, take Macapagal Bridge, then take Sumulong Highway to Antipolo.

Antipolo-to-Cubao routes

• From Antipolo, take Sumulong Highway, then A. Bonifacio Avenue, then go straight toward Aurora Boulevard to Cubao.
• From Antipolo, take Marcos Highway, turn right to Fernando Avenue, take A. Bonifacio Avenue, then go straight toward Aurora Boulevard to Cubao.
• From Antipolo, take Marcos Highway, take down ramp to Marcos Bridge Service Rd., then FVR Rd., straight ahead right turn to Katipunan Ave., left turn to Aurora Blvd., straight ahead to Cubao.
• From Antipolo, take Marcos Highway, then FVR Road, go straight toward Boni Serrano Avenue, turn right to 20th Avenue, turn left to Aurora Boulevard toward Cubao.

Antipolo-to-Cubao route for trucks

• From Antipolo, take Marcos Highway then FVR Road, turn right to Katipunan Avenue, turn left to Aurora Boulevard, then go straight toward Cubao.
