Here are Mercedes-Benz’s ‘sustainable solutions’

The Mercedes-Benz display at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show focuses on sustainable solutions for the future of mobility, which are reflected in the products, as well as in the business strategy of the brand.

“SUSTAINABLE solutions for the future mobility;” this is the focus of Mercedes-Benz’s presentation at the ongoing Frankfurt Motor Show even as the carmaker continues to position itself as a luxury brand.

So a highlight of Mercedes-Benz’s exhibition floors is the Vision EQS, which celebrated its world premiere at the show. Accompanying the concept car are several other models, all never shown to the public before.

“We are convinced that the need for individual mobility throughout the world will continue to rise. Especially for the Mercedes-Benz brand, there is a second global trend that seems set to strengthen. And that’s the demand for something special, for extraordinary products and experiences. Our job now is to redefine the ‘Modern Luxury’ of Mercedes. And there can be no doubt that desirable, contemporary luxury has to be sustainable — but also sustainably fascinating,” said Ola Kallenius, chairman of the board of management of Daimler AG and head of Mercedes-Benz Cars.

Mercedes-Benz Vision EQS is the trailblazer for the entire Mercedes-Benz EQ family. The concept provides an outlook on a new dimension in sustainable luxury.

The new GLE Coupes from Mercedes-Benz and Mercedes-AMG also celebrate their world premieres at the Frankfurt show.

Mercedes-Benz’s Experimental Safety Vehicle

The Vision EQS has a fully variable electric drive platform that is scalable, meaning it can be used across all models. The show car has a range of up to 700 kilometers, produces more than 350kW of power and around 760Nm. The output is enough to send the car from a standstill to 100km/h in less than 4.5 seconds. Its batteries can be recharged by 80% in less than 20 minutes.

Mercedes-Benz at the show said it is expanding its plug-in hybrid family with the world premieres of three compact cars and two SUV derivatives — three models of the compact car family with the third-generation hybrid drive are on display for the first time with the A 250 e, A 250 e sedan and the B 250 e. These new compact vehicles with EQ Power can do more than 70 kilometers when fully charged. Their electric motor makes 75kW. Combined with their four-cylinder, 1.3-liter engine, total output is 160kW (or 218hp) and 450Nm. The two SUV derivatives from the plug-in hybrid family are also on show for the first time; the Mercedes-Benz GLE will, in future, be available as a diesel plug-in hybrid. Thanks to a battery with a 31.2kWh capacity, the car can travel more than 100 kilometers. In GLE 350 de 4MATIC form, the model gets a fully variable four-wheel drive.

The Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 e 4MATIC is also on display for the first time. The midsize SUV kicks off the new model year with an even more striking design, the intuitive infotainment system MBUX and the latest driver assistance systems.

Kallenius said.

Other models on show at Mercedes-Benz’s space at the Frankfurt auto spectacle include the new GLE Coupes (counting in an AMG version), the Mercedes-AMG GLB 35 4MATIC, the new EQV electric premium MPV and the Mercedes-Benz Experimental Safety Vehicle (ESF) 2019.
